The Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) is an autonomous organization under the Government of Kerala. This is one of the organizations selected by the government. of India to become a center of excellence in mental health. IMHANS is a postgraduate training center affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). IMHANS is located in the Government. The primary focus is on mental health care delivery, training, research and policy development. Everyone who needs mental health services should receive appropriate care, which is a fundamental right. Mental health is considered an asset and collective actions are taken to promote mental health. Communities are empowered to take responsibility for the mental health of their members. To Lead efforts to address the mental health needs of the region's population. Promote and support public health approaches to mental health through service development, capacity building, research, policy development and networking.

The admission process to various IMHANS courses usually involves a combination of entrance tests, interviews and counseling sessions. IMHANS conducts its own entrance exam for most of the courses it offers. These exams usually take place at specific centers across the country. Candidates must register for the respective courses through the IMHANS website or the designated admission portal during the registration period. After the entrance exam, candidates who pass the preliminary round will be invited to interview and/or consultation according to the schedule announced by the Institute. Entrance Test: IMHANS conducts entrance test for M.Phil. admission. The exam usually takes place in June or July. The entrance test consists of objective questions and evaluates the candidate's knowledge in the relevant field.
Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. The interview panel will assess the candidate's suitability for the M.Phil. program builds on their academic background, research experience and communication skills.
Professional experience: Professional experience in a related field may also be taken into account during the selection process.
Reservation Policy: IMHANS follows the reservation policy as prescribed by the Government of India.
Boys Hostel: IMHANS Kerala has separate hostel for boys. IMHANS Boys Hostel Kerala is located near the administrative complex of the IMHANS, Kerala. The boys’ hostel has 81 single rooms as well as 18 cabins and 4 dormitories.
Girls Hostel: The institute has a separate hostel for female students called Cauvery Hostel. The hostel has 110 rooms, single and double rooms, accommodating 179 students. Most rooms have a private bathroom. Facilities at IMHANS Girls Hostel Kerala include dining room, study room, housekeeping service, hot water facilities, etc.
Medical/Hospital: The IMHANS, Kerala has a medical center that caters to the medical needs of students, faculty and staff.
Library: IMHANS Kerala has a complete library of documents to serve the information needs of students as well as the research needs of lecturers.
