Lady Irwin College is a constituent women's college of the University of Derry under the Memorandum of Association of the Lady Irwin College Society (see Terms and Conditions). It is governed by the Societies Registration Act 1860 (Punjab) 1957, Registration No. 4163 (1969-1970) and is managed by a Board of Directors and a UGC grant. Lady Irwin College, affiliated with the University of Derry, is a premier educational institution for undergraduate and postgraduate education in Home Economics Sciences. It also supports her doctoral programs in five areas of family science. Other programs include a two-year bachelor's degree program. (For Domestic Science Students), B.Ed. Special Education MR (open to students from all disciplines) and her 1-year Postgraduate Diploma in Nutrition in Nutrition and Public Health.Its objective is to develop and develop female students holistically through carefully designed academic programs and extra-curricular activities.Lady Irwin College's maxim is "VIDYA HI SEWA". The teaching and learning trade adheres to the motto: "We strive to impart useful knowledge through carefully designed outreach experiences."The College has consistently demonstrated leadership over other institutions in the country in the field of home science education, research and dissemination, both as a central university and as a home science college with agricultural facilities.Lady Irwin College celebrated her 83rd anniversary in 2015. Education at this university is aimed at building the capacity for entrepreneurship, improving the quality of life and the overall development of students. It is a base and model institution for home science education in the country.The university's academic disciplines are artistic, creative, culturally based and contemporary. The program is scientifically designed and includes training in textile technology, food processing, metabolism, environment, sustainable technology, food safety, health and disease, and human development. The university focuses on holistic education for the all-round growth of students.Through teaching strategies and course structure, faculty maintain high standards of training. The curriculum is internationally competitive. The university wants to develop students' talents, encourage creativity and enable them to play an active role in society.
Since its humble beginnings in 1932 with 11 students, Lady Irwin College has provided higher education to generations of women. The 90-year-old university enrolls more than 1,300 students each year. Since we first taught a certificate course in Home Science, our courses have grown to keep pace with the times and changing trends in higher education.This university has an illustrious pedigree. It was founded under the patronage of Mrs. Dorothy Irwin and by men and women involved in national affairs and women's education. Among them are the Maharani of Baroda and Bhopal, Sarojini Naidu, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Annie Besant, Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay, Margaret Cousins, Sir Ganga Ram Kaula, to name a few. It was included. The university served as a template for more than 200 universities and schools offering the field of home economics science in India and neighboring countries, providing guidance in the development of curricula, programs and infrastructure. The buildings on the university campus are classified and protected as cultural heritage sites.This college was run under the auspices of the All India Women's Education Endowment Society till 1950.
