The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) was set up by the Government of India in 1960, in the premises of the recent Prabhat Studios in Pune. 

The FTII Campus at present stands on the grounds of the past Prabhat Studio. Prabhat Studio was a pioneer in the matter of filmmaking and moved to Pune from Kolhapur in 1933. The old studios of the time, which were the generation reason for the movies of Prabhat are as yet present and are being utilized at FTII. The old Studios of Prabhat are presently legacy structures and FTII understudies keep on working at the world's most established working film shooting studios. 

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) was built up in the year 1960 and was previously known the 'Film Institute of India'. It was a branch of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India. 

In 1971, FTII came to be known as the 'Film and Television Institute of India' (FTII) and before long began in-administration preparing programs for Doordarshan, India's open supporter. The Television Training wing, which was prior working in New Delhi, moved to Pune in 1974. From that point, the organization turned out to be completely helped by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. 

Alongside the name change, FTII turned into an Autonomous Society under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, kept running by a Governing Council and its delegated Director. 

The Legacy of Prabhat Studios 

The present-day FTII grounds was at first a land purchased by the Prabhat Film Company route back in the year 1933. The organization was established in Kolhapur in 1929 and moved to Pune 4 years after the fact. An outstanding and spearheading film organization of now is the right time, it delivered a few significant and notorious movies, for example, Shejari, Sant Dyaneshwar and Sairandhri, which was the main shading film made by Prabhat. Such was the heritage of this famous studio, that at the time, it was the greatest film studio in Asia! The preparations made by the Prabhat Film Company in its prime included 45 movies made in both Marathi and Hindi dialects.
