Dumkal Polytechnic was set up on 2002 by Basantapur Education Society (a non-benefitting social welfare association) established by Dr. Nazrul Islam (Retired IPS Officer and an outstanding litterateur of Bengali exposition fiction and short story today). Other than Dumkal Polytechnic, the general public has set up a Degree Engineering College (Dumkal Institute of Engineering and Technology), a General Degree College, a Model School and a Primary Teachers' Training Institute. The general public is continuing towards setting up a Degree Medical College for which it has requested for NOC from the Govt. of West Bengal. Dumkal Polytechnic has been endorsed by AICTE and partnered toward the West Bengal State Council of Technical Education.
