R.A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai has a long history that began with India's freedom struggle. The visionaries of the time recognized that we should create an institution that conveys Indigenous values and has a driving force behind the social and cultural values typical of our nation's great heritage. . In August 1940, a trust named 'Shikshana Prasaraka' was established in Mandali, Pune and applied for permission from the University of Bombay to establish a commercial college. Businessman, philanthropist and visionary Seth Ramdeoji Anandilal Poddar was very interested in the cause of education. He wanted to set up a memorial to his younger brother Ramniranjan Anandyal Poddar, who passed away at a young age. He spent Rs 1,50,000 of his money to construct a building on the site where the university is now located and donated it on February 7, 1941 to his S.P. Mandari. The Bombay University Senate initially allowed him to establish a college with 150 students for a period of two years. The university building with its famous clock tower was donated by Seth Ramdeoji Anandilal Podar to S.P. Hand over Mandari. Advocate M.R. Jayankar formally inaugurated the university building. The university was named 'Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce'. Mandali has made remarkable contributions and has faithfully carried out clearly defined objectives with the motto of steadily carrying out the assigned mission. The objective with respect to commerce education was to expand popular and affordable higher education in Maharashtra and develop institutions that would provide adequate training in both commerce and economics. This institution was originally founded by B. Com. In 1942, this course was completed and the word "Economics" was added to the name of the university. It is now known as Ramniranjan Anandilal Poddar University of Commerce and Economics. On August 17, 1950, the university obtained permanent affiliation with the University of Mumbai. .
