Mariani is a small town in Jorhat district of Assam, situated in the foothills bordering Nagaland, surrounded by lush tea gardens. The town is inhabited by an amalgamation of diverse ethnic groups of people, belonging to different cultures of India. Due to the conscious efforts of the local people, an educational environment flourished in this town since its inception. As a result of which, several secondary schools were established within the town to fulfill the need. But since there was a dearth of higher educational institutions in the area, the students who completed their secondary and senior secondary education had to go to distant places in order to pursue their higher studies. However, many economically backward students, who wished to study further could not fulfill their dreams. Many of them had to discontinue their studies and look for other options of livelihood.The need for establishment of a higher educational institution was felt by the socially conscious people and with proactive leadership of eminent people of the locality, a meeting was convened at Mahadev Agarwalla High School in the month of March 1966. Late Tuaram Dutta Sir (former Headmaster of Mahadev Agarwalla School), Late Sarveswar Bordoloi (freedom fighter and labour leader) and many other respectable citizens convened the meeting. People from neighbouring villages like Nagajanka, Barhani and Nakchari and many tea garden employees were also invited to the meeting. With the active participation and insightful suggestions from all members present, it was unanimously decided that there was a need for the establishment of a college and accordingly, a committee was formed by the members present at the meeting. The Members elected Late Sarveswar Bordoloi as President and Late Tuaram Dutta as Secretary of the committee.

Candidates must follow the instructions mentioned below to avoid any discrepancy before/during the admission process:
Original documents i.e. mark sheet of qualifying examination and certificate of matriculation exam will be returned to the candidates immediately after verification and the attested photocopy of the document will be kept by the university for record.
The candidate selected for admission must pay the required charges at the time of admission.
The candidate can pay fee through demand draft (in favor of Mariani College - MC), net-banking, and cash.
On the reverse side of the Demand Draft, the candidate must write his/her name, admission form number and the name of the course he has applied for.
Candidates are advised to retain photocopy of the demand draft for their own record.
Library
The college has a Library that is the best stock house of knowledge and wisdom. The college has more than fifteen thousand five hundred books on different subjects and fields. In addition to these, daily newspapers, magazines, and journals are well-supplied. Both students and teachers have the opportunity to borrow books according to library rules. The college authority has already built up a well-equipped digitalized library to meet the hopes and aspirations of our learned community.

There's no any type of job opportunitie. No company visited to our college. and there no any placement process.Nowadays college has started to provide placements but back in my time we even didn't know what is placement or internship and college was also not providing such a thing.
The college has a Placement Cell and provides with various opportunities including personality development Programmes to the students. Various recruiters like nestle, apollo visit the college and recruit the students.The college has a dedicated Career Counselling Cell which is mostly responsible with guiding the brilliant of minds of the college and is integrated with most well-reputed career counsellors. The college also hosts multiple seminars, mock interviews, soft skills, communicative English, phonetic exercises, personality development, alumni interaction events and mock interviews to help students learn and understand their way to success and prepare for interview selections of companies and also to gain insights regarding companies and job life from the alumni placed in some of the well-known companies.
