Dergaon Kamal Dowerah College was established in 1962 with a vision of academic, social, cultural and economic development in greater Dergaon area and with clear objectives to provide better education to meet the global requirements successfully. The institution ascertains the unity and integrity among the people of different communities and religions and also the uplift of the downtrodden of the region.
The large rural belt of the northern part of Golaghat district, mostly inhabited by the economically backward section of the society with a sizeable segment belonging to socially backward classes such as the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and tea garden labourers, was without an institution of higher education till the early nineteen sixties. As a result, higher education remained inaccessible to a large number of meritorious students hailing from this section of the society. In the post-independence socio-cultural scenario, it came to be felt as imperative to provide for these young boys and girls an opportunity for higher academic pursuit, and thereby help them shape their life as responsible citizen of a free democratic society and realize their dreams and aspirations. It was primarily with this end in view that a higher education institute was established at DERGAON, a historically important place with rich cultural heritage, in 1962 through dedicated efforts of a group of socially committed individuals like Late Noren Sarma, a socially committed public leader, Late Harakanta Mahanta, a noted educationist of the locality and many others.

Candidate must have secured an average minimum of 60% marks in senior secondary school. He/she should have secured 60% marks in Economics and 50% in English. Those candidates who have completed their senior secondary school in Science stream should have secured an average minimum of 55% marks in senior secondary school. He/she should have secured 45% marks in Mathematics and 45% in English.
Candidate should qualify the English Major Selection Test (EMST) conducted by the university, mostly 5 days prior to the BA 1st Semester course admission commencement. EMST question paper consists of total 60 marks. For appearing in EMST, he/she must have secured an average minimum of 60% marks in senior secondary school and 70% marks in English subject. The performance weightage assigned to the eligibility criteria for a candidate to get through is 60% marks in EMST, 20% aggregate marks in senior secondary school and 20% marks in English Language as a subject in senior secondary school.
Candidate must have secured first division in senior secondary school examination with 75% marks in Geography & 55% in English. The final selection is based upon the total marks secured to double the marks scored in Geography theory examination + marks scored in Geography practical examination in excess of 30% in the subjects select as MIL and the main subjects for Degree programme.
Boys Hostel
The college has limited hostel facilities for boys. the number of seats currently available is only 62 and 66 respectively. The application form for hostel admission may be collected from the office of the college and submitted to the concerning office assistant after getting admission to the college. The superintendent in consultation with the college authority will finalize the list of candidates on the basis of merit. No seat in the hostel can be reserved prior to admission to the college. Hostels remain closed for summer vacation. Those admitted to the hostels will have to abide by the J. B. College Hostel Rules.

The college has a well-stocked library, named KK Handique Library, with a good variety and range of collections. Currently, it houses around 49764 books, national/international journals/periodicals in Assamese, Hindi, and English languages, and subscribes to 15 national and local dailies.

The college has Games and sports facilities are available in the college. An indoor stadium with all kinds of modern facilities is a special feature of the institution.

The college has well-equipped modern laboratories for all science subjects for conducting practical classes. Besides these, the Department of Functional English has a sophisticated language laboratory.

In our college the college authority arrange some carrier counseling program for two to three times in a year in this program some expert person told the student different types of job opportunities.
The placement of the college is good as they have the training and placement department for this which organizes campus placement and coordinates with the companies for the jobs and vacancies.
Many recruiters like cool minds, TATA consultancy services come for the hiring process on our campus. Many of my classmates opt for marketing jobs and some even pursue higher studies.
Sometimes there are some campus selection for the students of last semester. Many were selected by the companies that campus selection.
Tata Consultancy Services provided campussing in our college. We were informed priorly so a basic preparation was done accordingly to appear in it.
