Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology has been established in 1908. It is one of the pioneer institutions in India in the field of Engineering and Technology. Engineering and Textile Technology college was known as College of Textile Technology, Serampore. The Institute begained with a certificate course in Weaving.

The college has 4 storied well-equipped hostel building within college campus. Hostel accommodation is obtainable depending on the vacancy of seat. The mess of the hostel is run through a hostel committee consisting of Superintendent, staff member and candidates.
