BLM Girls College Nawanshahr Doaba was established in May 1959 with the inspiration of renowned philanthropists of the area. Many citizens of the town rendered their co-operation with missionary zeal, to educate the women of rural and backward areas of Nawanshahr Doaba.This institution is run by Arya Pratinidhi Sabha Punjab with the farsighted wisdom as well as untiring efforts for advancement of women education. The college is affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar.The college has Post Graduate Courses MA Hindi and MA Political Science, Post Graduate Diplomas in Computer Application,Fashion Designing and in Cosmetology along with BA, B.Sc. Economics, B.Com, BCA. This college has well equipped laboratories to meet basic requirements and to provide the best possible knowledge to the students with stress on experience and practical capability. The College has its own double storied hostel which can accommodate 70 girls. It is spacious old residential accommodation. The college at present has 481 girls-students under enrollment. About 315 SC/ST/OBC class students are getting free education in the college. Every year students from different classes find place in university merit list without fail. The sports department has been winning university position in handball, badminton, table tennis etc.To achieve academic excellence and to empower the young women of the nation through the near-best level of the education both, theoretical and practical, ethical, and modern, oriental and as well as western in attitude.To impart value based quality education to the young women in an environment conducive to their professional development, intellectual and emotional maturity.BLM Girls College aims at excellence in all our academic pursuits by “broadening the cognitive, experiential and spiritual horizons of students”.To encourage learning that fosters and grows in creative thought, inquisitive mind and self-discovery.We are devoted to the highest standards of “spiritual enlightenment”; honesty, human dignity, pro-existence and integrity of life.We embrace all aspects of cultural and human diversity and its necessity to ensure a vibrant learning community. Computer Laboratory
Considering today's need for computerization, our College is proud to have all the infrastructure facilities in certain faculties such as Commerce, Geography and Mathematics. These departments have their own computer laboratories with modern equipment and necessary software (Microsoft Office, Mathematica, Matlab, Latex, C++ software, etc.) to meet the needs of students. In addition, the library also has an e resource center, which provides access to e resources among other things.
Library
Shahid Bhagat Singh College has a fully computerized barcode library. The library has a computer lending system with barcodes. We have two computers dedicated to OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) book searches. This collection is enriched by his over 86,796 books on various research fields. The library also subscribes to over 100 of his periodicals in various fields (national and international, specifically Harvard Business Review, The Economist, etc.). The library also has a small computer lab for accessing electronic resources subscribed to by the College of Delhi through the College's intranet and the Internet. The Library also holds orientation programs from time to time and provides orientation in electronic resources for accessing bibliographic databases and full text databases available through the College's intranet and the INFLIBNET Consortium and Information Literacy Program. Students are encouraged to inquire about various library services with Dr. Puja Anand Gulati, Librarian.
Canteen
The College campus has a spacious and well ventilated canteen building with ample seating, separate from the academic blocks. We provide students and faculty with a variety of snacks, food, tea, coffee, and other beverages at low prices. The canteen committee monitors food quality, care and hygiene. A proposal to renovate the cafeteria was recently approved by the Building Committee and Board of Directors.
Seminar Rooms
The College has two seminar rooms equipped with state of the art equipment. The College organizes seminars, workshops and lectures with the active participation of students and teachers. Prominent scientists and experts from academic and business organizations are invited to interact with students and give lectures.
