Why Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering?

Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) is situated at Jamalpur in Munger locale of Bihar, on the Patna-Bhagalpur rail course, around 8 kilometers from Munger town. During the time of Mahabharata, Munger was the capital of Anga Pradesh managed by Karna. Munger was additionally the seat of Mir Kasim, Nawab of Bengal, who battled the East Indian Company here. The spot had customary aptitudes of making guns, and consequently chosen by the East Indian Railway for probably the most punctual workshop. It came into national noticeable quality when it began the preparation of Special Class Railway Apprentices as Mechanical and Electrical designers, beginning from the year 1927. In 1974, the school was made a Centralized Training Institute (CTI), renamed as Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and brought under direct control of Railway Board. It is, consequently, the most seasoned of the CTIs.  In 1988, the preparation of IRSME probationers was brought together under the influence of Director, IRIMEE yet with HQ at Kharagpur, where there was an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) co-ordinating the preparation with the Director. From 1997, HQ of IRSME Probationers was moved to Jamalpur.
