Jogamaya Devi College was established on 17th July, 1932 by Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee in response to the growing demand for centres of women’s education in Kolkata. It was started as the morning section of Asutosh college with 155 students enrolled for the I.A. course. Panchanan Sinha was the first principal of the college. A part of Jatin Das Park was leased to the Asutosh Memorial Institute by the Calcutta Corporation for the construction of a new college building. The college shifted to this new address, 92-S.P. Mukherjee Road, in 1935. This building, overlooking the busy Hazra crossing and adjoining the refreshing green of Jatin Das Park, functions as the main Academic Building of the college to this day. The college was renamed as Asutosh College for Women in 1948. It began its existence as a separate establishment in 1957 when it was delinked from Asutosh College and was affiliated to Calcutta University. The college was renamed Jogamaya Devi College in 1958, after the demise of Lady Jogamaya Devi, wife of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee. Jogamaya Devi College was the first women’s college to start the Geology Honours in 1956. Principal Jyotish Chandra Banerjee started the NCC Training Programme which is running successfully to this day. The Zoology Honours Programme was started in 1973 by Principal Arundhati Sen , the first Lady principal of the college. An annex building was built in 1992 at 5A, Rajeswar Dasgupta Road to accommodate the new departments and the increasing number of students. It currently functions as the Administrative Building of the college.

Cafeteria
The cafeteria located in the Institute’s premises catering to the need of the students is the essence of hygiene and quality food at reasonable prices. The aesthetically designed Cafeteria, managed by Institute serves delicious food to students and faculty at subsidized rates. The Institute has spacious and beautifully colored benches with lush green trees in front of cafeteria area.
Computer Lab
The Institute provides state – of – art computer systems with advance technologies to maintain itself in pace with the fast changing needs of the IT industry. According to the varied requirements of the students, the institute provides facilities in computer lab, which is equipped with latest computers. Institute has 50 MBPS internet connection and the campus is completely Wi-Fi so that students can access internet all over the campus area in their laptops / mobile devices.
Auditorium
The Institute has a huge auditorium to accommodate more than 800 people. Various activities such as cultural, extracurricular, co-curricular and indoor games are organized in the auditorium on regular basis. The auditorium is also available to Service Organizations like Rotary International for their activities. Pioneer Auditorium has witnessed many successful events and functions over last so many years.
Conference Hall
Institute has Air Conditioned Conference Hall which has seating capacity of 200. The Conference Hall takes care of all the conferences, seminars, guest lectures, expert sessions, induction activities of students and much more. The Conference Hall has projector and audio / video system for better learning. Pioneer Conference Hall has witnessed many events, conferences and seminars of national and international levels.
Hostel
Residing in hostel provides students with the opportunity to experience living in a community dedicated to the academic and personal development of individual members. Hostel accommodation is available for students. To provide environment conducive to academic and personal development, all residents are required to follow code of conduct.
