Why Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad?

The decade following autonomy in 1947 was observer to a flood of inventive plans to manufacture a juvenile autonomous country into a model vote based state focused on development with value. The foundation of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) was the result of one such imaginative activity. 

Driven by space researcher Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and a famous industrialist and humanitarian Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai, and proactively upheld by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Dr. Jivraj Mehta, a gathering of illuminated people set up IIMA in 1961. This gathering capably wove together an alliance of five on-screen characters - the legislatures at the middle and the state, nearby industrialists, the Ford Foundation and the Harvard Business College, to build up the establishments of the Institute. 

IIMA was set up as an establishment that would be overseen by a Society, the IIMA Society, made under the Societies Act. The Institute was to be controlled by a Board of Governors, comprised by the IIMA Society; the Board would have portrayal from all the important voting public in order to mirror the diverse needs of a creating country.
