Why Catholicate College?

Catholicate College owes its existence to the innate vision of the greatly lamented H.H Baselios Geevarghesse II, the Catholicos of the Malankara Orthodox Church and H.G. Puthencavil Geevarghese Mar Philoxenos, the then Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese. The college had the prayerful guidance of H.G.Daniel Mar Philoxenos, the first principal of the college, and who later became the Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese. Recently the college has celebrated its Diamond Jubilee.

The college was formally inaugurated on August 6th 1952 by the Honorable Raja Pramukh of Travancore - Cochin, H.E. (late) Sri. Chithira Thirunal Raja Raja Varma. The most virtuous H.H. Baselius Geevarghese II laid the foundation of this educational institution on the serene hilltop at Makkamkunnu, west of Pathanamthitta town, Kerala. In 1952 the college was affiliated to the university of Travancore, then University of Kerala. Now it is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam.The college upholds the motto The college secured christain minority institution status on 2012 from the Govt of India. “The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" with the vision 'To create an educated enlightened society for a brave new world’.
