Muruga Polytechnic College was begun in the year 1998. It is subsidiary to the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, to lead Diploma Courses in Engineering (3years) vide G.O.M.S. No. 536 Dated: 5/4/79 and endorsed by AICTE, vide F.No. Southern/1-2020011836/2014/EOA Dt. 11-03-2016. The school offers Diploma Courses in Automobile, Mechanical, Computer, Civil and Electrical and Electronics and Electronics and Communication Engineering Courses.
Muruga Polytechnic College is situated on the National Highway from Kallakuirchi to salem This grounds situated at Melur Village, is just 7km from Kallakurichi. The closest railroad station is situated at Chinnasalem which is 10km away from the grounds.
