The Maharani Lal Kunwari P.G. School, Balrampur usually known by its contracted name, as M.L.K. School, stands named after the adored mother of the Founder of the College, Rajarshi Late Sir Maharaja Pateshwari Prasad Singh Ji of Balrampur . This school jumped up like a desert spring in the instructive desert in this area reaching out from Gorakhpur on one side and Lucknow on the other. In the year 1955, the time of the introduction of the school, this was the main school bestowing guidance at the Degree level in the seven areas of Eastern Uttar Pradesh - Balrampur , Gonda, Shrawasti, Bahraich, Siddharthnagar, Sant Kabir Nagar and Basti. Universities which presently exist in these areas, came up a lot after and a lot later. Not just has the M.L.K. School this plume to its top of being the main Degree standard school around there however considerably progressively respectable is the way that this school at first began with both the Faculties - Arts and Science and in the Faculty of Science with both the gatherings - Mathematics and Biology. Schools commonly limp on for a considerable length of time to accomplish such a status while this school lept up to this stature at its very beginning. The credit for this goes to the gloriousness and kindheartedness of the Late Maharaja Saheb of Balrampur , Maharaja Sir Pateshwari Prasad Singh Ji and to the rational Counsel reached out to him by his counselors. That virtuous man of honor Maharaja Pateshwari Prasad Singh Ji required nothing for himself, carried on with a basic unostentatious life, yet was ever profoundly thinking and worried about the welfare of the individuals of his state. The opening of the M.L.K. Degree College at Balrampur was uniquely in the line of his musings - more noteworthy's benefit of the more prominent number.
