The idea of an institution like Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics suggests a distinguished history spanning 107 years, a history as diverse as that of modern India. A pioneer in commercial education not only in India but also on the Asian continent, Sydenham has produced a number of highly qualified graduates who have made their mark through outstanding contributions in their respective fields, making India a truly modern and progressive school. It has definitely contributed to making it a nation. This not only helped this country transform into a great nation, but also gave us a reason to be proud of our alma mater. This is not an exaggeration. it is a statement of fact. As the saying goes, ``All great things have their origin in insignificant things.'' The history of this great educational institution begins on October 22, 1913, when it rented a small site belonging to Elphinstone College. It started. The institution was initially named Government Commerce College. It received its present name, Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, in recognition of the generosity of the then Governor of Bombay, Lord Sydenham, towards the growth and development of this premier educational institution. Nevertheless, the rented premises did not become her permanent residence. The college changed locations three times (from Elphinstone to Cadibandar and then to her J. J. School of Architecture) before moving to its current building in the upmarket Churchgate area in 1955. Sydenham is a unique institution in this respect, as it was the first university to offer business education on the Asian continent, and for a long time remained the only institution offering business education. The university's reputation as the university of choice for business education quickly spread beyond its borders, with students from Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East lining up to enroll.
