Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology in Kolar Admission

Initially from 1971 as a “Speech Therapy Unit” under the Department of Neurology, the services were rendered to patients with communication disorders. The then Director, Dr.G.N.Narayana Reddy and Dr.M.Gourie-Devi, Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology envisioned the importance for establishing a separate department catering to the communication needs of the individuals with neurological and psychiatric impairments and eventually accorded a separate departmental status in 1980 as Department of Speech Therapy, which was later re-designated as Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology to project its nature of function in the areas of Speech-Language pathology and Audiology. Currently the department is located in the Ground Floor (G14) of the OPD block. This new premises was inaugurated by Sri. S.K.Srivastava, IAS, Addl. Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, in the presence of Ms. Sujaya Krishnan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, June 20, 2013.

Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology in Kolar Eligibility Criteria

For undergraduate courses

Candidates wishing to pursue UG courses in Audiology and Speech-Linguistics must have completed a 10+2 level examination or equivalent examination from a recognized authority in India.

The curriculum curriculum in high schools should be natural sciences, preferably physics, chemistry, and biology.

Minimum required score for +2 level is 50%-45% for general category and 45%-40% for SC/ST category.

In addition to 10+2 years, some universities also conduct entrance exams. Final admission to this course of study will be based on both grades.

For postgraduate courses

Candidates wishing to pursue PG courses in audiology and speech pathology must have completed an undergraduate program in the relevant discipline. The respective undergraduate program requires a minimum of 55% aggregate marks and a reduction of about 5% is provided for the SC/ST category. Candidates may also have to pass entrance exams conducted by different universities. Based on both the scores, candidates can get admission in PG courses.

For diploma courses

Candidates who want to pursue a diploma course on audiology and speech must have passed the 10+2 level or equivalent level of examination from any recognised board of India.

The stream in the higher secondary level must be science, preferably Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The minimum mark required in the 10+2 level is 50 percent. Relaxation of about 5 percent is offered to students belonging to SC/ST category.

Teaching Internship: Teaching Internship Program for B.Ed. Internships are a regular part of the annual learning activities that take place in two phases. During their internship, interns are sent to schools in and around Kolar, where they participate in all school activities to enrich their learning and engagement experiences under the supervision of principals and teachers serving the facilities.

Study Tours : Annual study tours are another feature of TGCE, in which students are taken to a variety of sites of historical and environmental significance, where they gain first-hand experience of the history of these islands. They also visited rural schools and experienced the learning and teaching process there. Regular seminars, debates and symposiums are organized at TGCE, in which students enthusiastically participate and are exposed to develop their various teaching and learning skills.

Electronic Lab : To meet the requirements of digital electronics and microprocessors for computer science students, the College is functioning in a well-equipped electronics laboratory. It has four desks with microprocessors, on which 12 students can work at the same time.

Psychology Lab: To conduct psychology experiments, the School is operating in a well-equipped psychology laboratory with all modern equipment, tests and experiments.

Language Lab: A language lab that can accommodate 20 students at a time was recently introduced to promote the language learning abilities of the students and help them master the language.

Library : TGCE boasts a library of more than 13,000 books. It remains open every school business day from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and books published during this period. It has a reading room, a reference section and a magazine section for the benefit of students and staff.

Computer Lab: TGCE has two Computer Labs. Computer Lab-I is equipped with around 30 computers and Lab-II is with 12 computers to make the trainees savvy with computer technology.

Annual Camp: The annual training camp is another annual feature of TGCE's academic activities. Cadets attend the five-day camp annually and are exposed to first aid, traffic laws and safety, scouting and guiding, environmental education and firefighting, and more. Practitioners were also taken to rural areas, conducted household surveys, and raised public awareness about social evils such as alcoholism, illiteracy, child labor, etc.

Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology in Kolar Selection Process

Eligibility: To pursue the MDS course, candidates must have a BDS degree from an accredited dental university.

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) MDS: Admission to MDS programs is usually based on the NEET MDS exam. Applicants must take her NEET MDS and obtain a qualifying score.

Counseling: Once the NEET-MDS results are declared, intensive counseling may be held by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) or State Counseling Authority depending on the admission process.

Seat Allocation: During the counseling, the candidate can select the desired specialization and institution based on her NEET MDS rank and availability.

Document Verification: Candidates are required to submit the required documents during the counseling process to verify their eligibility.
