The foundations of J.K.B.K. Govt. School can be followed back to 22nd August 1972 when the 'New Government College' began working in Ravenshaw Collegiate School, Cuttack. It was moved on 01.01.73 to the premisesof the school of Accountancy and Management Studies at Jobra and officially introduction on 19.01.73 by the then Education Minister of Orissa Mr. Binayak Acharya.On 31.01.73 the College was renamed as 'City College'. As a sign of tribute to the extraordinary patriot writer and opportunity warrior of Orissa Sri Birakishore Das, the school was named after him as Jatiya kabi Bira kishore College. At last the College was renamed as jatiya Kabi Bira Kishore Government College in the year 1996. The College was moved to its present grounds at OMP Square in December 1980.
