Why Lady Willingdon Institute of Advanced Study in Education (Autonomous)?

Lady Willingdon Institute of Advanced Study in Education is arranged on Kamarajar Salai, Triplicane, Chennai – 600 005, only 3kms from the Fort St. George, the head quarters of Government of Tamilnadu. In the year 1922, this Institute of Teacher Training was named 'Woman Willingdon Training College' after 'Lady Willingdon' spouse of Lord Willingdon, at that point Governor of Madras Presidency.

The pioneer Principal Miss. J.M. Gerrard, had a dream of stately building, confronting the ocean, formed like 'W'. Her vision appeared when a Scottish planner, under her direction structured the present structure into which the College moved in 1940.

The glorious structure in the premises of 16 sections of land ignore the world acclaimed rambling Marina Beach close to the Bay of Bengal, which is one of the longest and wonderful shorelines of the world to be sure.

To its north, only a couple of meters away, lie the Guest House of the University of Madras, the lovely palatial structure of the Presidency College, the P.W.D. building and the popular Madras University; to its south, the Queen Mary's College, the workplace of the Director General of Police, the All India Radio Station and the recorded Santhome Cathedral Church are arranged.
