Why St. Agnes Teacher Training Institute for the Special Education?

In 1970, the Apostolic Carmel Congregation of sisters started St. Agnes Special School to cater to the education of the mentally challenged children as its Centenary Memorial.  It was the first of its kind in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District.  Later many good willed people also started such institutions. Since there was a much felt need to provide trained teachers to such institutions, the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society, with the approval of R.C.I (Rehabilitation Council of India) started the St. Agnes Teacher Training Institute for Special Education (M.R.) in the year 1992.. It has conducted the course without break and maintained standards of quality and excellence in imparting curricular instruction, practice teaching, and obtaining excellent results in the examinations conducted so far.

The institution is blessed to have the support and the opportunity of availing the facility of the parent institutions, “St Agnes Special School” and “St Agnes Vocational Training Centre.” These serve as practice ground for practice teaching, interacting with the students and experienced teachers and to gain skills to train the special needs of special children. In turn the students of these institutions also benefit from the Training Institution.
