Why Institute of Home Economics?

The Institute of Home Economics started within the year 1961 by a Registered Co-operative Society conducting a biennial credentials course in Home Science. DLF provided the society with a property in South Extension on a ninety-nine-year lease. The credentials course was later followed by a 1-year course in Teacher coaching in Home Science. because the school started growing, the Co-operative Society was seized by a Trust, ‘Home political economy Education Society’ with Mrs. Rameshwari national leader because the President and plenty of alternatives noted educationists, as its members. Dr (Mrs) S. Malhan was the founder Director of the school. Her dynamism and keen involvement within the school affairs junction rectifier to the popularity presented by the University of Delhi and in 1969, Institute of home ec became a constituent school of University of Delhi. The college continuing to expand below the energetic leadership of Mrs. Malhan. within the year 1972, a 1-year Post-Graduate credential in life science and Public Health and Nutrition was started. This was followed by a 3 year B.Sc. Home Science (Hons) program in 1973. The year 1987 saw another landmark within the history of the school. the muse stone for the new school building at Hauz Khas was arranged by Late Honorable Shri Giani Zail Singh, the then President of the Asian country. Dr. Kumud Khanna was appointed Director of the Institute of home ec in 1992. below her steerage, the Institute of home ec has seen exponential growth. A three-year degree course in B.Sc. (Hons) biological science was started in 1992. the whole infrastructure needed to with success interacts the Master’s program was created by the school. Keeping in sight the growing demand for teaching within the field of Food and Nutrition, a biennial M.Sc. (Home Science) program in Food and Nutrition was started in 1993.
