Why Government College of Teacher Education?

Our school is a chief foundation committed to quality educator training at the auxiliary level. The school has as a witticism a stanza from Bhagavat Gita "Uddhared atmana tmanam" which signifies "One should lift up the self by oneself". Our Vision is to confer quality Education that encourages a superior social request. 


The Government College of Teacher Education, Kozhikode previously known as Government Training College was begun in June 1950, so as to grant educator preparing at the auxiliary level. It is one of the chief establishments in the administration area of the state and has a heavenly history of more than six decades.In the start, the school worked in the premises of Govt.Victoria College, Palakkad with its association to the University of Madras for the revamped BT course until June 1957. 


As a component of the revamping of the States in July 1957, the College got associated to the University of Kerala for the BT course. From the year 1959 onwards, the degree offered moved toward becoming B.Ed rather than B.T. 


The College was subsidiary to the University of Calicut from the scholastic year 1968-69, ensuing to the development of the University of Calicut according to the law number 5/68 of the Governor of Kerala. The Institution was redesigned and renamed as 'School of Teacher Education' by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and was authoritatively initiated by the Honorable Minister for Education, Kerala on 29th August 1992. 


The organization is perceived under 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC demonstration and it pursues The establishment is perceived under 2(f) and 12(B)(serial no) of the UGC demonstration and it pursues the UGC rules and standards of the NCTE. The NCTE has fixed certain standards for running B.Ed and M.Ed programs. NCERT additionally gave certain rules to the educational plan advancement and execution. 


The organization is under the regulatory control of the Director of Collegiate Education of Government of Kerala and direct scholastic control of affiliating college (University of Calicut). Anyway the foundation depends for its monetary help on the State Government, UGC and MHRD for its different formative exercises
