The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) in Guwahati is a premier research institution in Northeast India. Established in 1979, it is an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) was established in 1979 under the auspices of the Assam Science Society. Initially, it was set up as a research laboratory in the field of plant sciences. Foundation of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) is a chief logical research association in the north-east locale, considered and sustained by the Assam Science Society in its underlying years and was initiated by Nobel Laureate Dorothy C. Hodgkin on third November 1979. Thusly, it was upheld by the state govt. as its solitary self-governing R&D organization till March 2009.
