Mar Baselios College of Education is a self-financing college, run by the Minority community of the Catholic Diocese of Bathery. The teacher education was in progress from 1992 onwards. It was established in 2005 and is affiliated to the University of Calicut and recognized by the NCTE as per order No.F.KL/SEC/N/242/SRO/NCTE/2004-2005/785 dt.23/02/05

It is the brain child of His Beatitude Moran Mor Cyril Baselios Catholios, Major Arch Bishop of the Malankara Catholic Church and the college is patronized by His Excellency Most. Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thomas, Bishop of Bathery. The College is housed in a spacious multistoried complex on a large campus on the Gudalur-Ootty road, just one kilometer from the Town. There are hostels for men and women students run by the college.

The Corporate Educational Agency of the Malankara Catholic Diocese started this institution of teacher education to cater to the educational needs of the people of this backward district, irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The management is committed to the overall development of the trainee teachers who seek admission in this college and to transforming them as fully developed young men and women with a total commitment towards the noble mission of teaching, when they step out of this college. By upholding the motto “Lighted to Lighten” we outfit the academic excellence with the principles of social and moral ethics.

The college has a Central Library that caters to the informational needs of the faculty, students, and other staff of the institute. It is housed in a 1500 Sq. m. three-storied building on the main campus. Digital Library; The faculty, students& research scholars can access online and offline electronic resources. The Digital Library is housed on the first floor and can accommodate 40 users.

I.T Infrastructure

The college has a Computer Centre that is fully networked with 60 desktops and supported by a 16 Mbps internet facility that was opened on the 22nd of August 2011. This fully air-conditioned center is located on the second floor of the Library Complex. The Centre is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all working days.

The college canteen is maintained directly by the college Management. The canteen adheres to the highest degrees of quality, and hygiene and provides the students with tasty food at affordable rates. Buses ply to all important points as per the requirements of the students. The bus secretary is the in-charge of time scheduling and other arrangements regarding the bus.

6th semester the students are eligible for campus placement. 20% students going for upper studies like M.com etc.There is no placements or internship conducted by the college.There is only sports related job opportunities provided by the college.A student can easily get job in various government department through University certificate in sports.

There is no placement or internships offered by college. No company visit our college. Its just you come and get your degree done. Students themselves have to learn and apply for off campus jobs in different companies.Every year a few hospitals come for recruitment. There is a proper system for selection which includes the semester marks, then a few students are shortlisted then a written exam is conducted and very few are selected for the last round which is the personal interview.The placement opportunity is available in the campus. The college recruits the students to work in the college itself. There are also other hospitals that visit the campus for recruitment process and offers a good salary package.There is a lot of opportunity for the placement. The college itself hires the students as a medical practitioner. Some students also joins their family clinics to support the family members. There are good deals offered to them.
