Why Jeevandhara Rehabilitation Research Institute?

A registered society was founded in 1992 by Dr. V.K. Chawla and Dr. Raka Chawla as a collaborative effort by a group of parents searching for local based services for their children having hearing loss. Later in the year 1998, Dr. Amitav Mishra with a group of motivated professionals re-established as Jeevandhara Rehabilitation Research Institute. Later in the year 1999, his wife Mrs. Saswati Nanda joined the institute and looked after overall administration. The important milestones during the institute’s journey of more than 25 years are highlighted here:

1998: Served as demonstration center for Special Education Programme of MJP Rohilkhand University, Barelly

1998: Selected as potential institute to train regular school teachers to act as master trainers under IEDC of District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) of Government of Uttar Pradesh.

1999: Awarded a project by Government of Uttar Pradesh through UPEFAPB under assistance of World Bank to provide resource support to the district Bareilly for ‘Integrated Education of Disabled Children’ under DPEP and the institute succeeded to bring more than 4000 students with disabilities to regular primary schools.

2000: Organized the first Measurement cum Distribution of Assistive Devices Camp with support of CRC Lucknow and Alimco (considered being the first biggest camp till that date in the country  for more than 1000 school going children with disabilities).
