College of Kerala was built up on first November 1937 by a declaration of the Maharaja of Travancore Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. It was the sixteenth University to be set up in India and the first in the State of Kerala.The University at its very beginning embraced as its adage "Karmani Vyajyate Prajna" a refrain from the antiquated Sanskrit work Panchathanthra.
