Much before autonomy i.e., as prior as 1918, Mahatma Gandhiji the dad of the country, envisioned the need of a connection language between the northern and southern conditions of the nation in light of a legitimate concern for solidarity and respectability of the country. He thought Hindi spoken by the greatest area of the general population could be the connection language. He established Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha in Madras with the respectable motivation behind engendering Hindi in the southern conditions of the nation in the year 1918. He was the existence time leader of this Institution, "DAKSHIN BHARAT HINDI PRACHAR SABHA".Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Sri. Lal Bahadur Shastri, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Sri Rajiv Gandhi and Shri. P.V. Narasingh Rao, Shri. Vektaraman and Justice Rang Nath Mishra , Shri. M.V. Rajshekaran were the past presidents. At present Justice Dr. V.S. Malimath is the President.Hindi Language turned into the Official language from the date of beginning of the Constitution of India. Spread of Hindi in the Southern States was a critical need as thought about in the Articles 343 to 351 of the constitution.Keeping the abovementioned, points and questions and the circumstance in view and furthermore the respectable work done by Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha from the year 1918 and Govt. of India announced the Institution as an Institution of National Importance by Central Act 14 of 1964.
