The College was conceded the self-governance status in September 2005, associated to Bengaluru University. Mount Carmel College was re-certify with an A+ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2006. It is one of the Colleges in India chosen by UGC under the plan, College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) in 2006. In the year 2012 the College was compensated An evaluation by NAAC in its second round of re-accreditation. 

The College offers Under Graduate and Post Graduate Courses in Commerce and Management, Humanities, Science, Home Science. The understudy quality of the College in 1944 was 274; today it has quality of more than 5,500 understudies seeking after both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Programs. As a noteworthy advance, the College built up an Institute for Management Studies (MCIM) in 1992, so as to give ladies understudies a chance to seek after Management Education. 

The College has entrenched Research Facilities, State of the Art labs and encourages research culture both among staff and understudies. The Commerce Department has been perceived as a Research Center by Bengaluru University in 2006. Under the Under Graduate stream the College offers 10 Programs in the Faculty of Arts, 18 in the Faculty of Science and 4 in the Faculty of Commerce and Management. Number of Post Graduate projects has expanded from 3 under the associated framework to 13 under the self-sufficient framework. The College through the Center for Extended Education(CEE) offers ability based credit programs.
