Kidderpore College, a government-aided co-educational college, was founded in the year 1966 by the erstwhile Rector of Kidderpore Academy Sri Jitendranath Bandyopadhyay. Kidderpore Academy is a school adjacent to the present college building. His vision was to open up the doors of higher education to the wards of the poor residents of the locality. He worked hard to apprise the local people. This college is affiliated to the University of Calcutta since its inception. Situated in a part of the city which people from different linguistic and religious communities inhabit, the college typically represents the rich variety of our country. Along with the Bengali speaking students, there are students who speak Hindi, Urdu, Nepali and Oriya. This area occupies a special position in the cultural map of Kolkata. Kidderpore was residence to three notable nineteenth century Bengali poets — Michael Madhusudan Dutta, Hemchandra Bandyopadhyay and Rangalal Bandyopadhyay.Kidderpore College started its journey with the vision that this educational institution would develop into an institution of enlightenment and advancement of learning, and 25 eventually shape young minds in harmony with the requirements of globalizing education. In this effort it is the responsibility of the College to tap human resources available in the neighbourhood. It is also the vision of the College to guide the students to excel in education as well as in the field of social responsiveness that revolves round diffusion of essential human values thriving on wisdom, universalism and cultural pluralism. To realize this vision the College heralds an inspirational ambience that stimulates all, especially the students to deliver their best leading to the advancement of the College and society as a whole.To focus on its mission for advancement of knowledge and merit the College embarks on the enrichment of academic quality and human resources, development of healthy practices and social awareness among the students through a host of social, cultural and ‘within-the-campus’ and ‘off-the-campus’ activities and delivers all kinds of assistance to the students utilizing the infrastructure and inputs from the faculty members.

Computer Laboratory
Considering today's need for computerization, our College is proud to have all the infrastructure facilities in certain faculties such as Commerce, Geography and Mathematics. These departments have their own computer laboratories with modern equipment and necessary software (Microsoft Office, Mathematica, Matlab, Latex, C++ software, etc.) to meet the needs of students. In addition, the library also has an e resource center, which provides access to e resources among other things.
Library
Shahid Bhagat Singh College has a fully computerized barcode library. The library has a computer lending system with barcodes. We have two computers dedicated to OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) book searches. This collection is enriched by his over 86,796 books on various research fields. The library also subscribes to over 100 of his periodicals in various fields (national and international, specifically Harvard Business Review, The Economist, etc.). The library also has a small computer lab for accessing electronic resources subscribed to by the College of Delhi through the College's intranet and the Internet. The Library also holds orientation programs from time to time and provides orientation in electronic resources for accessing bibliographic databases and full text databases available through the College's intranet and the INFLIBNET Consortium and Information Literacy Program. Students are encouraged to inquire about various library services with Dr. Puja Anand Gulati, Librarian.
Canteen
The College campus has a spacious and well ventilated canteen building with ample seating, separate from the academic blocks. We provide students and faculty with a variety of snacks, food, tea, coffee, and other beverages at low prices. The canteen committee monitors food quality, care and hygiene. A proposal to renovate the cafeteria was recently approved by the Building Committee and Board of Directors.
Seminar Rooms
The College has two seminar rooms equipped with state of the art equipment. The College organizes seminars, workshops and lectures with the active participation of students and teachers. Prominent scientists and experts from academic and business organizations are invited to interact with students and give lectures.
