Urumu Seshachalam Chettiar, the revered Founder of our College, is a noble man. He has bequeathed his property to poor children.He started an orphanage for poor children and his service for the people is highly laudable. His orphanage was slowly developed into a Middle School which began to function from 1946. Later on, the Middle School grew into High School from 1951. The Founder was philanthropic, benevolent selfless. Mrs. Urumu Dhanalakshmi Ammal helped her husband in all his endeavours. Hence the College bears her name.Our College found away from the town in the midst of country environment, fulfills the necessities of the destitute individuals of Thiruverambur and Kattur Villages. Our College worked in S.I.T premises for the initial two years, 1970-72. During the third year, it started to work in its own structures in at Kattur. This College which began with Pre-University course had presented B.A. (Financial matters) during the subsequent year. In 1975, B.Com., and B.Sc., (Maths and Chemistry) classes were presented. In 1979, B.Sc. (Material science) was presented. Our Colledge is having M.A.(Economics) from 1980-81, M.com.from 1981-82,part-time M.Phil. in Economics from 1982-83,Full-time M.Phil.

The college has Central Library was established in 1970. The College Library is well equipped with sufficient numbers of textbooks, reference books, journals, Competitive Examination Magazines, and Newspapers to enrich our students with current affairs and General Knowledge. The library has a good number of e-resources like e-books, and e-journals, related to the subject and curriculum of the college and also maintains a wide selection of non-academic and rare books that are of great historical significance to provide faculty and students with an enriched experience. The library has been automated using “NIRMAL” Software with a 4.0 version. It was automated in the year 2012. NIRMAL software is a user-friendly software designed to take care of all the administrative and management functions of the library.
